Boyd House (University of Oklahoma)

Boyd House, also known as the President's House and the OU White House, is the official residence of the president of the University of Oklahoma. In 1976, the Department of the Interior added it to the National Register of Historic Places, citing the building's "great contribution to the growth and development of Oklahoma."〔http://www.ocgi.okstate.edu/shpo/nhrpdfs/76001558.pdf〕 The OU President (currently David Boren) is provided the Boyd House as a primary residence free of charge.〔http://oudaily.com/news/2002/dec/04/boren-declines-pay-increase/〕
==History==
Boyd House was built in 1906 by OU's first president, David Ross Boyd. It was acquired by the university in 1914, following Boyd's departure from Oklahoma.〔http://www.oufoundation.org/sm/fall2006/thams.asp?ID=211〕 The house became the home to several later university presidents, and hosted numerous significant historical figures, including Sir Alexander Fleming, John Philip Sousa, William Howard Taft, and Niels Bohr. However, as the years passed, OU's presidents began choosing to live off campus, and by the 1960s the building was utilized as administrative offices. Boyd House reopened as the presidential mansion in 1996 for current president Boren following an extensive renovation and expansion.〔http://www.ou.edu/discover/discover_home/virtual_tour/boyd_house.html〕
In 1976, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as "President's House, University of Oklahoma".〔
